Flint Bedrock is a Zimbabwean born UK recording artist and is also the CEO of YSBG Entertainment.
He has been working in the music industry for many years and is currently gearing up for the release of his latest single ‘Sweet Joanna’.
For the summer track Flint has teamed up with some huge names, including Platinum selling producer and songwriter Laurence Hobbs who has worked with chart stars; Sam Smith, Pixie Lott, Shayne Ward and many more.
Here Flint Bedrock chats exclusively to Celeb Mix about his new single, what it was like working with Laurence Hobbs, and what he hopes to achieve in the coming months with the track.
What was the inspiration behind your new single ‘Sweet Joanna’?
‘Sweet Joanna’ was inspired by all the beautiful loving people in my life who have been supportive and instrumental to my success. Often we don’t say thank you, I love, I appreciate you enough and this song does just that. The song might seem to be about a guy speaking to his lover but the core message applies to family, friends, fans, anyone who is supportive, loyal and should to be appreciated.
Describe the sound of the track in three words?
Inspirational, charming and bouncy.
If you could compare ‘Sweet Joanna’ with any song out there at the moment which would you pick?
I am absolutely rubbish at making song comparisons but all I can say is; the song has a familiar, friendly, and somewhat old skool vibe to it. I love it and I am sure the listeners will do too.
You have worked with a lot of big names on this track, what was it like getting into the studio with these people?
Working with established songwriters and producers is an amazing experience, I believe that to get the best you have to work with the best. On this occasion I have had the privilege to work with Laurence Hobbs who has written with many acts including Sam Smith, Pixie Lott, Shayne ward, Andy Abrahams, Jack Pack, Laura White and Amanda Wilson to name a few! Laurence Hobbs has written songs that have reached number 1 in 5 countries and has also received a Platinum and Gold disc for one of his songs.
If you could collaborate with any artist who would you choose and why?
Beyonce, because she is a legend.
What do you hope to achieve with the release of ‘Sweet Joanna’?
I am extremely excited about the new single and I am hoping for significant chart success. More than that, I just want people to enjoy the song, I haven’t released new music in a while, personally it’s refreshing to be talking about a new release and feeling like an artist again.
We know the single will be out this summer, can give us a specific date?
The timing of this project was inspired by one of my loyal fans who wished me number 1 chart success on my birthday a couple of weeks ago and the next day I got in touch with Laurence. It was a spontaneous decision and that’s why I haven’t announced a release date as yet, I will be making the announcement in the next few weeks.
As well as being a singer/songwriter you are also the CEO of YSBG Entertainment, how do you juggle all of your commitments?
I love music and as they say, if you do what you love you’ll never work a day in your life. I am a big believer of DIY, I believe you have to create your own reality and to be exceptional you have to be willing to go the extra mile.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to follow your own career path?
The best advice I can give is; know what you are getting yourself into, do the research, objectively evaluate your act and be realistic about your expectations. Music is art, art is unique and is an acquired taste. If you can find your niche market and be able to develop it, you can be successful. It’s just a numbers game but above all you have to be willing to put in the hours and work very hard.
