Oliver Hudson has been working in the entertainment industry for more than 15 years and his story is a very interesting one. Although he has celebrity parents, he has worked hard to get where he is – and over the last few years, his hard work has really been paying off for him. Now working as a series regular on the hit ABC series, Nashville, Hudson is on his way to earning a well-deserved place among the other talented people in Hollywood. However, even though his star is rising, there are many things about Hudson that will survive you. After years of keeping somewhat of a low profile, he could be the next big household name. Here are 10 things you didn’t know about Oliver Hudson.
He comes from a famous family
Oliver Hudson certainly isn’t the most successful member of his family, and it’s easy to see where he gets hit talent from. His mother, Goldie Hawn, is a very successful actress who achieved great popularity during the 70s, 80s, and 90s. His step father, Kurt Russell, is also a very successful actor who has appeared in dozens of films including Tango & Cash and Poseidon. Hudson is also the older brother of actress, Kate Hudson, who has become a household name over the course of her career for her work in films such as Almost Famous.
He was once voted one of the most beautiful people by People Magazine
Although Hudson may not have been popular in the mainstream until a few years ago, back in 2002, People Magazine voted him as one of the most beautiful people of the year. He was also featured in an article in the magazine in the spring of that year which highlighted the work he was doing at the time.
He is a father
Oliver Hudson isn’t just a talented actor, he’s also a very proud father of three. Hudson enjoys his role as a father and finds time to balance both his career and his paternal responsibilities. His mother, Goldie Hawn, is also very proud of her role as a grandmother. When Hudson welcomed his first and only daughter in 2013, Hawn shared in the excitement as they welcomed the new baby to the family.
He is an avid poker player
Oliver Hudson’s acting skills aren’t just useful in front of the camera. He’s also been known to bring them to the poker table in the form of a very intense poker face. In 2005, he competed in the Poker World Series but unfortunately lost in the very first round on to professional poker player, Sam Farha.
He attended the University of Colorado
Oliver Hudson may have been born in Los Angeles, but he was raised in Colorado with his mother, step-father and sister. Instead of going far away to college, Hudson decided to stay close to home and attended the University of Colorado.
He refers to Kurt Russell as his dad
Biologically, Bill Hudson, is Oliver Hudson’s father – but Kurt Russell is the man he considers his father. Russell has been with Goldie Hawn since 1983, and was the person to help raise Oliver and Kate. Hudson has been estranged from his biological father for years. In the past, Bill Hudson has expressed how hurt he is by the fact that neither Oliver or his sister, Kate, want to have a relationship with him. Recently, on father’s day Hudson expressed his true feelings towards his father in an Instagram photo which he captioned “Happy abandonment day.”
He isn’t just an actor
Hudson may be best known for his work as an actor, but that isn’t the only thing he does. Hudson has also worked as a model, a production assistant. He also started a production company with his mother and step father called Cosmic Entertainment in which he oversees the company’s Workshed Entertainment division.
He was raised Jewish
Oliver Hudson’s maternal grandmother was Jewish, and according to sources, Hudson was raised in the Jewish faith. Hudson’s mother was also raised in the Jewish faith and has stated that she still considers herself to be a follower of the faith.
He used to call his sister hammer head
Although Oliver Hudson has several half siblings and step siblings, Kate Hudson is the only sibling with which he shares both parents. As a result, they have been together their entire lives and have formed a very close relationship. They are often seen at public appearances together, and it is clear that Hudson is always proud of his little sister. However, like any other sibling relationship – theirs wouldn’t be complete without a little childhood bickering and teasing. Apparently, Hudson used to refer to his sister by the nickname, “hammer head.” Although there’s no information as to where this name came from – there’s a pretty good chance it’s not from something pleasant. There’s just something about the name hammer head that doesn’t seem like it’s meant to be flattering.
He’s not like Jeff Fordham
Over the last few years, Oliver Hudson has gained mainstream fame as a cast member on the popular ABC series, Nashville. Hudson’s character, Jeff Fordham, works in the music industry and will literally do whatever it takes to make money. Although Fordham is, to put it plainly, a jerk – Oliver Hudson is actually the opposite. He’s a loving father and husband who works hard to provide for his family. However, Hudson has admitted that playing Fordham is a lot of fun. During an interview he stated, “It was great last year, just to be ruthless.”
